[CMDNET] Determination of Students' reputations as negotiators

  • 1.  [CMDNET] Determination of Students' reputations as negotiators

    Hi Ellen,

In experimenting with what reputation means to students I've done this a few different ways.  The attached spreadsheet shows two variations of my reputation index template.

The unique feature in mine is that I split reputation into two components, reputation for negotiating skill and reputation for integrity in negotiation.  I don't define those terms, but let students decide what they mean.  And students seem to have a very definite sense of what it means to be a skillful negotiator versus a moral negotiator, judging by the variance in and between the two resulting indexes.  Though, as interesting as I find that, I've never come up with anything to do with the insight.

As you can see from the spreadsheet, I also collected other "measures" of reputation.  All of this I did more from curiosity than anything, though results informed the design of other projects.

If you're curious to see how I incorporated the index into students' grades you can peruse an old syllabus here:  http://www2.owen.vanderbilt.edu/nathan.goates/mgt_448/mgt448.syllabus.part1.pdf

    Hope that helps,

    Nathan

    Dear Colleagues,

I would like to have my MBA students rate each other's reputations as negotiators.  If any of you have done this in class, would you please share how you have the students rate each other, and how you use this information as part of the course grade?  If you have a template or questionnaire that you use, would you please share that as well?

Thanks in advance for your help with this.

    Best regards,

    Ellen
