The Department of Social and Organizational Psychology of the Faculty of Psychology and Education investigates major themes such as cooperation, emotion, group processes, human resource management, justice, leadership, organizational behavior, personality, relationships and self-regulation. The department provides a vibrant, international research climate with inspiring and productive academic staff and students who are supported by excellent research and teaching facilities (e.g., multiple labs for experimental research, equipment for assessing affective, cognitive, physiological and neurological processes, contacts with organizations for field research) and by expertise in statistics and methodology.  The department has a very strong reputation in psychological science as indicated by an excellent research assessments, high quality publications, high standards for teaching and mentoring, and frequent visits by international experts.

     

    The newly established Department of Social and Organizational Psychology starts per September 2009 and integrates social psychology and organizational psychology. The department has a strong commitment to theory development, innovative research and application of psychological theory to dyads, groups, and organizations.  Research and teaching have a strong international and interdisciplinary focus covering central themes in social and organizational psychology and related fields, supported by expert teachers from the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Netherlands</st1:country-region></st1:place> and abroad. 

     

    Job description

    The positions are open to any specific area of expertise, but the positions differ in terms of focus.  One position emphasizes expertise relevant to organizational psychology such as leadership, social processes in organizations, and human resource management.  The other position emphasizes expertise relevant to social psychology, in particular topics that help advance the study of social interaction in dyads and groups. 

     

    For both positions, the candidates are expected to have or develop a strong programme of research and acquire funding to support their research.  The candidate will contribute to major parts of the departmental teaching programs and supervise MA and PhD theses.  The candidate will take part in departmental committees. 

     

    Qualifications

    ·         Completed PhD-thesis (or to be completed soon);

    ·         articles in peer-reviewed international journals on topics relevant to social and/or organizational psychology;

    ·         teaching experience relevant to social psychology and/or organizational psychology;

    ·         flexibility in teaching different courses in the Bachelor or Master's programs;

    ·         experience in attracting external research funding.
