A Stress Management Workshop for Doctoral Students

    Saturday, August 5, 2017

    11:15am-2:15pm

    Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Fairlie

Sponsored by the Conflict Management Division

    Purpose

The purpose of this session is to help early stage Ph.D. students learn to manage stressors they may experience in their programs. The target audience is students who will be entering their 2nd or 3rd year in the fall -- preferably those who have already attended PDWs on related topics (such as Halfway There and Productivity). Although doctoral students may hear in other parts of the conference program about dealing with stress, we rarely focus on the concrete coping mechanisms and tools that can be used. To promote skill-based learning, this workshop introduces attendees to research and practice across topics including recognizing the impact of stressors on mental and physical health; navigating feelings of uncertainty, anxiety or isolation; yoga and meditation; and seeking external resources. Our goal thus is to provide attendees with hands-on learning with various approaches to coping. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to dialogue and seek support from faculty who study stress and related topics, as well as current doctoral students and recent graduates who will offer complementary perspectives on stress management.

To pre-register, please first complete this brief survey: https://wharton.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4249rGpr6ii0UfP. An approval code will then be provided for use in registering online by July 5th: https://secure.aom.org/PDWReg.
