Greetings:
Thank you all very much for your comments to my previous question
about the Thomas-Killman Conflict MODE and other measures of conflict
resolution styles. I have briefly summarized the responses below. If
you wish to be not anonymous, I will happily pass on who told me what.
best regards,

Responses:
I received four responses.
Two favored the Rahim (specifically, the ROCI-II) as superior to the
Conflict MODE. It is evidently more widely used and has better
psychometric properties.
One person questioned the basis of both instruments, noting that they
are in need of critical reassessments. This person suggested that
conflict behavior could not be studied outside its contexts, and (if I
interpreted this corrected) suggested that conflict resolution styles
are more a factor of the situation than traits.
One person suggested a recent refinement of the DUTCH questionnaire.
Originally designed by Van de Vliert (1997), de Dreu and colleagues
(2001) conducted further development and showed using three studies
fairly strong psychometric properties. They argue this survey (20- or
16-items, depending on if Compromising is included) is stronger than
the Rahim. That reference is:
de Dreu, C. K. W., Evers, A., Beersma, B., Kluwer, E. S., & Nauta, A.
(2001). A Theory-Based Measure of Conflict Management Strategies in
the Workplace. Journal of Organizational Behavior, Vol. 22, No. 6,
645-668.
It is worth noting that no one wrote in defense of the Conflict MODE.
Thank you again for your responses.

Original query:
Greetings:
I am going to conduct a study where I will measure individual
differences in conflict resolution styles. I'd like to use the typical
five-style model--avoiding, competing, collaborative, compromising,
and accommodating. I've used the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict MODE in the
past. I see there's also the Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory,
as well.
Does anyone know what the standard/most-used questionnaire for
measuring conflict resolution styles is, and/or if there are any
articles arguing the relative merits and weaknesses of those two (and
other) scales?
Thank you very much for your assistance. I will summarize the replies
and send them out to the group.
